Positioning technology holds a panel, arm, mount, or lid at a set angle, or lets it move smoothly and safely to a new one, without dropping, slamming, or requiring the user to fight against gravity. Common applications

• Display and monitor mounts. Articulating arms that let a screen tilt, swivel, or extend, holding position once adjusted rather than drifting or sagging under the display’s weight.
• Counterbalance hinges. Used on heavy doors, lids, and pass-through countertops, these hold the panel at any point in its swing instead of relying on the user to hold it open or letting it fall shut on its own.
• Adjustable supports and arms. Similar positioning principles applied to equipment panels, control surfaces, and other components that need to move to a position and stay there.

What to consider when choosing positioning hardware

• Load and torque. The hardware needs to hold the actual weight of the display, panel, or lid at the angles it will be positioned at, not just when centered.
• Range of motion. Tilt, swivel, and extension requirements vary by application. Confirm the full range needed before selecting a mount or hinge.
• Friction and hold. Positioning hardware relies on controlled friction or a counterbalancing mechanism to stay put. That mechanism needs to be matched to the load it’s holding.
• Mounting space and pattern. Available depth and mounting hole pattern determine which arm or hinge style will physically fit the application.
• Duty cycle. Frequently adjusted positioning hardware, such as on shared workstations, needs to hold up to repeated repositioning without losing its hold.
