Drawer Slides
Drawer slides look simple from the outside: two rails, some ball bearings, a drawer that goes in and out. But the right slide depends on load, travel distance, mounting space, and how the drawer needs to behave under actual use. Not every slide is interchangeable, and picking the wrong one usually shows up as sag, binding, or premature wear.
Steeves Agencies carries Accuride drawer slides along with other supply lines, covering light-duty to heavy and super heavy-duty applications.
What to know before choosing
- Load capacity. Slides are rated for the weight they need to carry per pair, under normal operating conditions. Match the rating to the actual loaded weight of the drawer or tray, not just the empty weight.
- Extension type. Some slides extend partially, others give full or over-travel extension so the drawer or tray comes completely clear of the cabinet. The application usually decides this: if you need full access to the back of a drawer, partial extension won’t cut it.
- Mounting style. Side-mount, center-mount, and undermount slides each need different clearance and installation approaches. Available space inside the cabinet or enclosure narrows this down quickly.
- Locking features. Lock-in and lock-out slides hold the drawer either closed or open, which matters in mobile equipment, vehicles, or anywhere vibration could let a drawer roll open or closed on its own.
- Soft-close. Reduces slam and wear on both the slide and the cabinet, useful in higher-use or consumer-facing applications.
- Material and finish. Stainless steel and corrosion-resistant finishes matter for marine, washdown, or outdoor environments. For general indoor industrial use, standard finishes are usually sufficient.
Common applications
Tool cabinets, equipment trays, electronics enclosures, vehicle and trailer storage, marine compartments, medical and lab equipment, and industrial cabinetry all rely on drawer slides suited to their specific load and environment.
How to measure
Slide length is typically measured by the closed length of the slide itself, not the drawer or cabinet opening. Confirm mounting height and side clearance before ordering, since a slide that’s correct on paper can still bind if the cabinet doesn’t have the clearance it assumes.
If you’re not sure which slide fits your application, contact Steeves Agencies. We can help you work through load capacity, extension type, and mounting before you order. For common stocked Accuride slides, visit HingesAndLatches.com to shop online.
